Gastric bypass surgery for obesity control

Gastric bypass operation is known to be one of the most successful treatments for obesity. Obesity shortens your life. That is a fact. That is not a myth anymore. There is a direct correlation between obesity and a shortened lifespan. Gastric bypass surgery results to permanent change in the body and helps people lose significant weight. Gastric bypass is said to improve both quantity and quality of life because permanent weight loss practically adds years to life.

Complications after the surgery may include infections, bowel obstruction, collapse of lungs, blood clots and other effects that follow abdominal surgery. But the most common complication seen is excessive vomiting. So people who usually undergo gastric bypass are those who are living in danger because of their excessive weights and other complications brought about by obesity.

The positive effects of gastric bypass are treatment of apnea, reduced risk of certain cancers and minimize risk for diabetes. Some patients completely lost their symptoms for apnea 6 months after the surgery. They don’t snore loudly anymore nor feel sleepy on daytime. Patients were also observed to increase responsiveness, have fewer emotional problems and lesser difficulty at work. But people who plan to undergo gastric bypass should know that they do have the tendency to return to their weight before the surgery if they are not ready to give up and control their eating habits.
