Botox is a nonsurgical trend practice by women of today to help them maintain their young looks. It is a neurotoxin that exerts its effects at the neuromuscular junction. The effect of the toxin is a muscular weakness or flaccid paralysis. This is used to treat patients with facial dystonia, hemifacial spasms or facial tics. The cosmetic benefit of the treatment give them a more youthful appearance. Botox improves the cosmetic appearance by decreasing or eliminating hyperfunctional lines caused by skin pleating due to the contraction of underlying muscles. So Botox became an anti-wrinkle fad for women of all walks of life and to some men.
FDA issued a warning about dangerous botulism symptoms that may lead to death. In some cases, the toxin has the ability to spread beyond the injection site to other parts of the body. This paralyzes and weakens the muscles at the same time blocking nerve impulses. Sometimes it affects the muscles used for breathing and swallowing which may be fatal. You are advised to seek immediate care if you suffer the symptoms of botulism. Symptoms are characterized by difficulty swallowing or breathing, slurred speech, muscle weakness or difficulty holding up head. To be safe it would be wise to inquire treatment of the symptoms first.
