Update your antivirus software

Some 500,000 people have fallen prey to a phony music video with an MP3 file extension that is actually a spyware infested Trojan horse. The file is actually an installer which requires a special codec and a special media player to play back the file. When you install the codec, all you get is a computer screen full of pop-ups delivered through a variety of malware programs. The attack is being distributed primarily through peer to peer networks. A substantial 500,000 attacks already occurred in just one week. The infected file incorporates all manner of potential file names. Please update your antivirus software to make sure its running real time scans.

Hi, Shirley, just want to add a few words. The situation you are talking about actually bypasses the antivirus program, as what happens is that the file will not play, and a message comes up saying that you need a codec, which is the software that kind of joins a file to the player program. If this happens NEVER EVER download the 'codec' as it is not actually a codec that you are downloading, but a program full of adware, or an installer to allow more adware to be sent to your computer. Codecs are available on the internet without clicking as suggested on the link in the music file. Same with emails, avoid the links. If in doubt, get the requirements dealt with as an independent action that you initiate, not the popup window or link from anywhere.
