Blaengraw, near the town of Bridgend in Wales, have been taking lives of young people below the age of 30 through suicide in the past 12 months. The latest victim was the 17 year old girl who hanged herself in her own bedroom. Officials suspect that it was internet related. The internet sites they had frequented may have been influential enough to push them to commit suicide. One teenager who barely survived the suicide attempt this week was discovered hanging from a dressing gown cord. When asked why she had taken her life she simply answered she doesn't know.
The news gave me a very uncomfortable feeling because I have children who I allow to use the internet to play games and sometimes for social network to be exposed with other people's culture and life. Although all five use one computer by turns and with the presence of their elder sisters watching to make sure they don't download viruses I feel the need to relay the news to my 14 year old girl. She sometime use the computer alone when I am tired at night. Guess what she told me? Oh mama maybe it's because of hellgirl. It's an anime site that allows one to send a request over the site to kill somebody. And when that somebody is already dead the one requesting the death also dies.
Good Lord, my hair just went up with the horror I've heard. I thought animes are safe. What was the writer thinking giving ideas as horrific as this? I just hope they would correct that because children are children and they are easily mislead by scheming adults. Now I know that conversation and quality time is really needed to keep us updated with what the trend is likely to be among the young ones.
