Unionbank EON or ewallet cards for paypal

Great news for freelance writers and all those who accepts outsourcing jobs in the Philippines. Unionbank EON and ewallet can now be used to fund your paypal accounts. I have been on the look out for debit cards that can be used in the internet and with paypal ever since paypal announced that it is already accepting payments for the Philippines last year. Of the banks that I inquired none so far has the debit card that can be used in the internet. Their cards are only intended for automated teller machines and POS swiping. I made a proposal to the president of Allied Bank last week. He's a good person and it's time I return favors telling him how huge is the market for debit cards because it is only Unionbank that allows it to be used for paypal. Surprisingly the only one debit card I've known that can be used online is Unionbank EON and ewallet. I am still waiting for mine. Website says 5 days but their branch here in Cebu says 3 weeks. And oh I just read that payment acceptance is only monthly as agreed by paypal. Weird if you got a bunch of contracts it could be multiple receipts from different customers. Let's observe from our own transactions then and maybe share the experience in the comments here to inform other Filipinos also.

I am a writer, too, and I get paid through paypal. That was my dilemna then I made some research and found Unionbank's EON Cyber card. I applied online and I am just waiting for my card. Yes, it says 5 days but I called my bank's branch here and they said that I just call the bank for a follow-up to check constantly if my card is already available. The reason they tell customers that it will be a month after you get your card is to give them time for any postage problems. Now, if after 5 days I don't get my card, that means their confirmation online is no guarantee for getting your card in 5 days. Now that sucks (and talk about how "GREAT" their customer service is ironically!). The important thing is that I want to transfer my paypal funds to a card (such as EON) and then add this to my paypal account. This way, my paypal account becomes verifiable. I tried adding my international debit card before but it was rejected because the security digit in my debit card was only 2-digit and they need 3. With the EON cyber card, it has an expanded number accepted by paypal which you can input in your card details and then you're on your way to transferring your funds and withdrawing it! As for Unionbank's e-wallet card, it works like an ATM and the opening balance for an e-wallet is Php10,000.00 (I just called the bank). I think this is great, too, because I like buying at e-bay Philippines and I can use the e-wallet. Anyhow, I agree that the banks in the Philippines should really make an effort to start issuing debit cards. Could it be that banks make more money on credit cards than debit cards, hence, they don't really push for it? It's frustrating...the Philippines is still lagging behind. Only one bank in Pinas! Geez!

Hi Rustan, I got my EON card last week and the first problem that I encountered was that paypal didn't accept it the first time I added it because Unionbank did not recognize the card. Frustrating huh? Very much determine to check that the card that was embossed was correct I enrolled same date to their online account access. The submission was successful but two days after I checked to see that the enrollment was really successful, it says card not valid. Imagine the waiting and then the frustrating result. I communicated with the bank and it took them I think 4 days more to resolve the problem. They called and made follow ups with me which is what I like with their customer service, the calls. It gives you a feeling that they are really facilitating and coordinating everything. At last it was accepted by paypal and I had accessed my account. Then comes the counting of 5 days again to wait for the confirmation number from paypal to be reflected. I am still waiting. I did made a move suggesting the creation of debit card product with Allied Bank. I am a retired Allied Bank employee. Our president submitted the suggestion to the officers who will be handling it. At least if they will create the product at zero maintaining balance then we all have a second choice. I just hope. The reality of only one bank in the Philippines serving us is real frustrating. Competition is good because it will develop the kind of service they will be giving us too.

This is me again. Latest update with EON debit card. I made a transfer from my paypal account since Last January 24, 2008 yet and until today Feb. 5, 2008 8:16 am I haven't been credited with the transfer. Unionbank is real frustrating. I really need the money to pay my bills.
