the value of life

I read about the Somali pirates asking for $1million in exchange for the lives of the Filipinos, South Koreans, and Myanmar crews aboard the Golden Nori tanker. I cannot understand why Somali has done all these hijackings just to get rich for the selected few pirates. They even hijacked ships carrying aid, merchant ships, and even cruise ship. The news said that they were trained fighters, I don't know why they can't put this skill to good use. I only have one question: What if something like natural calamity happens to Somali, just like Bangladesh, where will they go and ask for aid? If other countries will find trade and security not good in the place then their economy will continue to fall. What about education and exchange of knowledge? What about the children and tomorrow? I cannot comprehend how few good men could be so shortsighted to put the future of their generation to doom. Oh dear why can't they just do contract military works and do some lifesaving business rather than putting their country into high risk of being boycotted in trade with the rich guys.
